Chickadee Creek Farm
Work-share program – Apply Here
Applying for a work-share on our farm is a meaningful way to participate in local farming. Our work-share members come to the farm and work alongside us for a weekly four hour shift in exchange for the farm’s vegetables. For a work share position you will need to be in excellent health and good physical condition. You do not need any experience to qualify, just a willingness to commit to working on the farm each week!
Farm work shares are available to those accepted to the program. Work share farm members will commit to a weekly shift on the farm from May through October in return for a generous weekly helping of vegetables. Short season work-shares from June-August and September to November are also available.
Harvest helpers: Wednesdays or Fridays, 8am to noon, you will help us harvest and prepare for markets.
All the work-share shifts are 4 hour shifts, and we will offer these only to people who will see these positions as a serious commitment; we are a small farm with a tiny dedicated staff, and we will be relying on your consistency! If you need to take a day off, you are expected to cover your shift either with make-up time, or by switching shifts with one of your co-work sharers. The days of the week and hours are unfortunately not flexible…we need the crew there in the morning so no one suffers from heat stroke, and we need everyone there at the same time so we can properly train and orient you to your task!
According to a 2014-15 season work-sharer, these are the benefits of being involved:
“I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to share in the wonderful experience of helping at the farm. It was truly satisfying in many ways. Here’s a few of the things I really enjoyed:
- the quick, natural sense of team and cooperative spirit
- getting to know some great people
- a productive and efficient work environment
- learning new things and continuing to learn better ways to do them, from each other and by observations
- time in nature and the beauty surrounding me
- physical work and getting my hands in the earth
- honesty and no BS!”
To apply please send an email to Jess (firstname.lastname@example.org) with your availability and emergency contact info. Please include your phone number so we can have a conversation to answer any questions either of us might have about the positions!
We think farming is wonderful work, and hope to have you join us!
